WELCOME TO THE ENIDI AND THE LEGACY OF THE STAND

A Personal Message From Robert John Godfrey

The "community of Enid" - a tribe of friends drawn together by the power of the music and the ideas which inspire it: For Power, Romance, Melody and Creativity must add up to be a positive factor for a world which has crossed the Rubicon and a species for which it may already be too late.

Until now, my ideas for reawakening The Stand in the form of The Enidi have been expressed in what for some must have been an incomprehensible Dreamland – a World of Wolves and Shepherds – Riddles and Dark Landscapes. Part of my years on the edge trying to understand our place in the cosmos. Now it is time for me to get real and tell you what it all means.

THE LEGACY OF THE STAND

The Stand, although dormant from time to time has never been dissolved and has remained in existence one way or another since its formation in the 1980's. Many of the original members are still with us, knowing that one day we would all re-emerge. Without the support we have had from our friends and supporters in The Stand , the great achievements of the eighties could not have happened. There would have been few recordings. No big events or concerts and probably little music composed.

The Enid does not regard their fans as consumers or punters which is largely the case with corporately funded bands. Instead we learned to think of you all as our patrons and supporters without whom there could be no Enid. All this worked well until the band split in 1998 and I went slightly bonkers.

Well! I am not bonkers anymore. In fact, I am "full of it", as my dear departed father used to say of a much loved dog.

WE ARE WHERE WE ARE

The Enid was never either able or willing to take the necessary steps to widen the appeal of the band for the record business to take a commercial interest in our future.

In order to do this, the band would have needed to make drastic compromises to our whole creative approach, thereby killing off the very thing that makes the music so distinctive.

In spite of the temptations and inducements, I never did bring myself to do it. And now we are where we are. Coming together again on the last leg of a long journey.

THE ENIDI - A COMMUNITY OF ENID - MEMBERS ONE OF ANOTHER

In The Enid, it appears that I, together with my founder members, have quite inadvertently managed to create a band of unique quality whose music will, for that reason alone, live on. I am now quite ready for a final chapter, if you are?

To help me, I need a new "community of Enid" - a tribe of friends drawn together by the power of the music and the ideas which inspire it: For Power, Romance, Melody and Creativity must add up to be a positive factor for a world which has crossed the Rubicon and a species for which it may already be too late.
