SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES

In 1983 Robert John Godfrey and Stephen Stewart re-launched The Enid as an independent band. From then on they concentrated on a largely underground audience, selling their records exclusively at gigs or by mail order.

Their seminal fifth album, "Something Wicked This Way Comes", is an outrageous departure from what could be expected from the band. It was released on their own label - for the first time featuring vocals. In spite of its challenging and experimental nature, it far outsold its predecessors.

THE SPELL

The Spell, released in 1984 on The Stand Label is a musical allegory in which the seasons are used to depict the cyclic and seasonal nature of all things. The music begins with the casting of The Spell; a dark Wagnerian fanfare where the allusion to Parsifal is obvious. The bleakness of winter is heard and the ice begins to melt as the first glimmer of dawn breaks.
