Re: The Enid into the Future - Part 3

I totally respect people who have the opposite opinion to me on this....
but i just fail to see why a group of musicians who are clearly so talented and creative would want to be seen playing (a) gimmicky covers..... and (b) basic music.
Some people may see this as a 'fun' element, but to me it's embarrassing....
I will go and get my pint while Thunderbirds is on !
The band already have good encores such as Dark Hydraulic, or they could write a 'Dark Hydraulic 2' for an encore....
Now i'll shut up !!

It's not because it's a "serious band" making wonderful music that we can't have fun sometimes !

Re: The Enid into the Future - Part 3

I can't remember what the Thunderbirds theme is like,I'm obviously far too old and forgetful.Must give up on the red wine. What I do remember however is loving seeing the band play encores such as "Wild Thing","Pretty Vacant","or "Honky Tonk Women".These were moments of pure joy, with Robert prancing around singing his heart out,and Steve and Francis becoming rock axe-heroes for 5 minutes.Obviously, they served the purpose of letting off steam at the end of the gig, both for the band and the audience, and although The Enid's music is complex and often very serious, these piss-takes always went down extremely well and gave a very festive note to the end of their gigs. The Enid were always a very funny bunch of guys - there was always banter between Robert,Francis, and the audience - and these encore 'covers' were just another demonstration of the band's fine sense of humour. For me,they were also a part of the gigs that made the whole Enid thing so original and different from anything else I had ever seen or heard.

I agree with GDonald: I don't like the novelty songs at all and particularly dislike 'Wild Thing'. They can sing 'em in the bath if they want - but not on stage! :D
